GARDEN GROVE, CA – February 7, 2006 – Ricoh EncryptEase hybrid CD-R discs, that automatically encrypt confidential data, are now available from Kano Technologies Corporation (www.kanotechnologies.com). EncryptEase discs have built-in encryption software – and are inexpensive, easy to use and require no additional software or hardware. The discs are ideal for making copies of confidential business or personal information for safe off-site storage.

“EncryptEase has many uses, both personal and business,” said Robert Young, Kano Technologies’ national sales manager. “It can be used for archiving, distributing or disseminating any kind of confidential information that needs to be protected.”

“For example, many people use Quicken, Quickbooks or a similar financial program – and they back up the data onto their hard disk,” Young continued. “But, what happens if their computer is stolen or destroyed in a fire? Just when they need a backup the most, it’s gone.”

“With EncryptEase, you back up to your hard drive as usual. Then, you copy the backup onto an EncryptEase disc, give it a password, and slip the disc into your handbag or briefcase for safe storage off premises. You don’t have to worry about it falling into the wrong hands because it’s encrypted and password protected. And you can protect other confidential business and personal information and documents the same way.”

EncryptEase for Microsoft Windows is the first in a new line of “intelligent” hybrid media from Ricoh that incorporates both CD-ROM and CD-R technology on one disc. Sophisticated encryption software – including encoding/decoding, data compression, writing and copy-guard functions – is pre-recorded on the CD-ROM portion of the disc; and user data can be recorded on the 600 MB CD-R portion.

Except for its password function, EncryptEase works like a conventional CD-R for both input and retrieval. A user simply inserts an EncryptEase disc into the CD-R drive, and the built-in software launches. The user then selects files on the hard drive for encrypting and recording. Once all files are selected and copied, the software prompts the user to set a password. Because it’s a multisession CD-R, EncryptEase allows users to add data and assign additional passwords up to 20 times or until the disc is full. Each encrypted data session is protected with a user-assigned, unique password and can be independently accessed through the self-launching software interface.

Data recorded on EncryptEase can be read on any Windows system. A user can send an EncryptEase disc to an associate, and email the password to him. The associate simply inserts the disc into any PC or laptop, and the software launches and installs a driver. Then, the associate enters the password and accesses the data. The associate can now modify the files or record new files, assign a new password, and send the disc back to the original user.

EncryptEase is available now in North America, at an SRP of $5.95 per disc from Kano Technologies at www.kanotechnologies.com. After February 28, 2006, it will also be available from Ingram Micro at www.ingrammicro.com, and from D & H Distributing Company at https://www.dandh.com/html/nshtml/NSgetAccess.asp.
